I urge you to reject the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services. As a polio survivor, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has rightly warned Kennedy to "steer clear of even the appearance of association" with efforts to undermine confidence in proven vaccines like the polio vaccine. Kennedy's associate Aaron Siri has represented clients seeking to rescind approval for versions of the polio and other vaccines, which poses a dangerous threat to public health. The polio vaccine has virtually eradicated this debilitating disease in America, saving millions of lives. Any attempt to roll back approval or sow disinformation about this or other vital vaccines would be catastrophic and "undoubtedly make America sick again," as Senator Schumer stated. Kennedy must clearly state his stance supporting existing vaccine approvals before being considered for this critical position overseeing public health policies. For the wellbeing of all Americans, I implore you to oppose Kennedy's nomination unless he categorically repudiates anti-vaccine misinformation and affirms his belief in the safety and efficacy of vaccines like the polio vaccine that have freed us from once deadly scourges. Nominating someone skeptical of proven vaccines would endanger lives and take us backwards in the fight against preventable diseases. Please stand firm against this misguided nomination.
