VETO HB445 (please)
To: Gov. Ivey
From: A constituent in Auburn, AL
May 8
I am writing to you as a voting Alabamian and a concerned citizen deeply invested in the success of our state’s small business community. I respectfully ask that you do not sign HB445 into law.
This bill would have a devastating effect on hundreds of small businesses across Alabama that have built their livelihoods around legal hemp products since 2018. These are locally owned shops—often family-run—that have created jobs, contributed to our economy, and followed state regulations in good faith. Shutting them down through HB445 would not only eliminate these businesses, but also strip away the incomes of hardworking Alabamians who depend on them.
There have been no reported hemp-related deaths since legalization, and these businesses have operated responsibly within the boundaries of the law. Instead of criminalizing an industry that has brought growth and opportunity, I urge you to support pathways for fair regulation that allow these entrepreneurs to continue serving their communities.
Small businesses are the backbone of Alabama’s economy. Please stand with them by vetoing HB445.
Thank you for your time and leadership.
