Hold DOGE and Elon Musk accountable
To: Gov. Newsom
From: A constituent in Venice, CA
February 8, 2025
I am writing to formally request that the State of California investigate and take appropriate legal action against Elon Musk for alleged violations of California's privacy laws, including but not limited to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Constitution's Right to Privacy.
Recent reports suggest that Musk, under the auspices of an unauthorized federal entity known as the "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), has accessed or facilitated the unauthorized access of private information belonging to California residents. If substantiated, such actions would constitute a severe breach of privacy rights protected under California law.
As you are aware, California has some of the most comprehensive privacy protections in the nation. If Mr. Musk or any affiliated entities have engaged in illegal data collection, surveillance, or misuse of personal information, they must be held accountable under state law. The people of California deserve transparency, security, and assurance that their personal data is protected from unlawful intrusion.
I urge your offices to launch an immediate investigation into this matter and, if warranted, initiate legal proceedings against Mr. Musk to ensure compliance with our state’s privacy laws. Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue, and I look forward to your response.
