Fix the rot at DHS

As chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee you are in a unique position to initiate reform of DHS. You can lead your colleagues in separating the DHS budget from the remainder of the appropriations bill under consideration this week. Do not be misled by President Trump's shuffling of personnel. The lying about victims of ICE violence spreads to the top levels, including the President and Vice President. Reshuffling does not address the moral rot at DHS. We must pass necessary budgets while holding DHS until major reform can occur - and that will take more time than is left in current budget deadlines. Again, separate DHS from this budget and allow congressional oversight to begin, leading to DHS reform that will prevent its use as a unit of paramilitary thugs terrorizing political opponents.
