I am writing to urge you to oppose the administration's systematic dismantling of racial equity structures and economic opportunity programs that are harming American families and communities. The Joint Center's report 'State of the Dream 2026: From Regression to Signs of a Black Recession' documents alarming economic indicators. By December 2025, Black unemployment reached 7.5% compared to the national rate of 4.4%. Black youth unemployment showed dramatic volatility in late 2025, signaling dangerous economic precariousness for an entire generation. Recent executive orders have targeted President Lyndon Johnson's 1965 Equal Employment Opportunity order and defunded critical agencies like the Minority Business Development Agency. These actions shift federal support away from disadvantaged businesses, threatening Black-owned firms with the loss of billions in federal contracts and resources. This means job losses and stunted economic growth in communities that can least afford it. The 'Big Beautiful Bill' passed in 2025 compounds these problems by providing tax cuts that disproportionately benefit high-income households and corporations while slashing investments in Medicaid and SNAP. These cuts limit access to essential services for low-income households struggling with rising costs. Executive orders like 'Removing Barriers to American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence' strip away protections that could advance inclusion in the technology sector, further concentrating economic power. These policies destroy government jobs and dismantle agencies responsible for preventing predatory economic practices. Without deliberate action to reverse course, economic and racial inequalities will become entrenched, resulting in generational loss for millions of Americans. I urge you to oppose further dismantling of equal opportunity programs, vote against budget cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, and support legislation that restores funding to agencies protecting economic fairness. Our communities cannot afford policies that concentrate wealth while abandoning working families.
