I’m writing because the refusal by Brown County District Attorney David Lasee to pursue charges related to Elon Musk’s alleged election interference was, in my view, a serious failure of responsibility. After the Wisconsin Ethics Commission found probable cause and referred the case, he had a clear opportunity to enforce the law. Instead, he chose not to act. It felt cowardly. It felt embarrassing. And it felt like a failure of duty. Now we’re seeing the consequences of that inaction. Musk is trying to do it again — this time by pushing what appear to be fake voter registration sites. When powerful people learn that accountability is optional, they repeat the behavior. Earlier silence made this easier. I understand that you cannot force a district attorney to prosecute. But you can investigate, hold hearings, request reviews, and use your authority to ensure election‑related misconduct is taken seriously. If conduct related to these fake voter registration sites falls under any state jurisdiction — deceptive practices, election violations, or threats to voter access — I urge you to review it and take whatever action is appropriate. This isn’t personal. It’s about the role public officials hold. Inaction weakens public trust. Silence says more than any official statement could. Wisconsin voters deserve accountability, transparency, and enforcement of the laws that protect our elections.
