Pass Stricter Gun Safety Laws to Protect Children Pass meaningful gun safety legislation now. A 16-year-old just killed a teacher and three children, ages 5, 8, and 11, at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon. A seven-year-old is in the hospital with critical injuries. This is not a freak event. This is a pattern, and the pattern continues because lawmakers keep doing nothing. Restrict access to high-capacity weapons and close the gaps that let minors get their hands on firearms. Other countries have mental health struggles too, but none of them have our body count. The difference is access. Thoughts and prayers have had 27 years to work since Columbine. They haven't. Legislation can. Stop gun violence now or be voted out. We are done waiting.
