Sports gambling has personally caused significant harm to me and those close to me despite my initial enthusiastic support for its legalization in New York. The detrimental impacts, including financial strain, addiction, and fractured relationships, have become all too clear in the years since. I now recognize this was an ill-conceived policy that must be reversed before more lives are destroyed by the pernicious influence of the gambling industry preying on vulnerable individuals. States should act swiftly to prohibit legal sports betting and its inescapable predatory advertising.
