I am writing to express my concern about rising inflation since former President Trump began a second term in January 2025. After a period of post-pandemic stabilization, consumer prices have ticked upward consistently in the first half of the year:
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:
Month CPI‑U Change MoM
Jan 2025 +0.5%
Feb 2025 +0.2%
Mar 2025 –0.1%
Apr 2025 +0.2%
May 2025 +0.1%
Jun 2025 +0.3%
Annual inflation rose to 2.7% in June, up from 2.4% in May
This reversal in the downward trend is troubling. Americans are already paying more for necessities—housing, food, energy—and any further escalation in inflation pressures hurts households and families trying to make ends meet.
Given this trajectory, it's critical to understand that Trump's policies—especially tariffs—are compounding the problem. Tariffs are effectively taxes on consumers, raising retail prices on imported goods. In this context, pushing for new tariffs would deepen inflation, not alleviate it.
I urge you to:
Closely monitor and respond to these rising inflation trends.
Oppose any move to reimpose broad tariffs.
Support measures that strengthen the Federal Reserve's independence in managing inflation.
Our economic recovery remains fragile, and the current trend under Trump’s policies is steering in the wrong direction. We need congressional leadership to stabilize prices and protect working families from hidden tariff burdens.
Thank you for your service and your attention to this urgent economic issue.
