I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent regarding former President Donald Trump's recent public statement that he ordered a bombing of Iran without Congressional approval.
If this statement is true, it represents a blatant and unconstitutional act of war conducted without the consent of Congress, as required under the War Powers Resolution of 1973 and Article I of the Constitution. Authorizing a military strike—particularly against a sovereign nation—without notifying Congress and obtaining approval is a direct violation of federal law and democratic norms.
This alleged action is not only unlawful, but reckless and destabilizing. It sets a dangerous precedent that future presidents may act unilaterally, without oversight, in matters of war and peace. If Congress does not respond swiftly and decisively, it signals that there are no consequences for violating the Constitution.
I urge you to investigate this matter immediately. If the claims are substantiated, Congress must pursue accountability measures—including consideration of impeachment or legal referral—without delay. Upholding the balance of powers and protecting democratic institutions must remain a top priority.
Please do what is right for our country and for the rule of law.
