January 6th Pardons

To: Sen. Ernst, Rep. Feenstra, Sen. Grassley

From: A constituent in Council Bluffs, IA

January 22, 2025

I am writing to express my profound disgust and deep concern over President Trump's recent decision to pardon over 1,500 individuals convicted in connection with the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. This unprecedented act of clemency extends even to those who committed violent assaults against law enforcement officers, undermining the sacrifices made by those who defended our democracy on that fateful day. By absolving these individuals of their crimes, the President not only diminishes the severity of their actions but also sets a dangerous precedent that could embolden future acts of political violence. This decision sends a perilous message that such behavior is excusable, threatening the very foundations of our democratic institutions. I urge you, as my elected representative, to take a firm stand against this misuse of presidential pardon power. It is imperative that Congress explores all available avenues to address this grave injustice and to reinforce the principle that no one is above the law. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
