Support Assault Weapons Ban of 2023, prevent mass shootings
To: Rep. Gerdes, Sen. Zaffirini
From: A constituent in Luling, TX
September 7
The mass shootings across the nation are a horrific tragedy, leaving countless families shattered. As lawmakers, we have a responsibility to take meaningful action to address this crisis and prevent further loss of innocent life. The Assault Weapons Ban of 2023 is a crucial step towards enhancing public safety by strictly regulating military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines that enable these devastating attacks. The key provisions in this bill will prohibit the importation, sale, manufacture, transfer and possession of semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices. It provides reasonable exceptions for law enforcement and lawful uses like hunting. Critically, it will require background checks for transfers of grandfathered assault weapons between unlicensed parties. This legislation strikes a balance between protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners while denying dangerous firepower to those who wish to cause mass harm. After the unspeakable carnage our nation has witnessed, we cannot in good conscience allow these weapons of war to proliferate unchecked on our streets. It is imperative that we act decisively to keep military firearms out of the wrong hands and make our communities safer for all. I urge you to support the Assault Weapons Ban of 2023. Enough is enough - we must take substantive action to address this epidemic of gun violence plaguing our country. The time to pass this legislation is now.
