The president's debate performance was concerning, showing signs of physical and mental decline that raise doubts about his capacity to serve another term. While he has accomplished much and would still be preferable to his dangerous opponent, the presidency is an immense undertaking that requires full faculties. For the good of the nation, Biden should make the selfless decision to step aside and allow the Democratic party to choose a new candidate with vigor to defeat the existential threat posed by Trump and his anti-democratic movement. This difficult choice preserves Biden's legacy of service over self-interest, emulating great leaders who resigned power for the greater good. The stakes are simply too high to proceed with a candidate faltering under the rigors of age and office.
