Title Urging Inclusive Policies in Amateur Sports The proposed "Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act" raises concerns about discrimination and exclusion. By narrowly defining gender based solely on reproductive anatomy, it fails to account for the diversity of gender identities and expressions. Such a restrictive definition could lead to the marginalization and stigmatization of transgender and intersex athletes. Promoting equal opportunities and inclusive policies in sports should be the priority. Numerous medical and athletic organizations have established policies that allow transgender athletes to compete in accordance with their gender identity while ensuring fair competition. Blanket bans based on biological characteristics risk violating civil rights protections and human rights principles. I urge you to reconsider this legislation and instead work towards developing policies that balance fairness and inclusion. Consulting with experts, advocating groups, and impacted communities can help shape guidelines that respect all athletes' dignity and rights. An approach rooted in scientific evidence, ethical principles, and respect for diversity would better serve the spirit of amateur sports.
