I am writing to express my outrage at this Republican administration’s abrupt abandonment of our long-time NATO allies to side with Russia and Vladimir Putin.
NATO is the most successful alliance in our lifetimes, and has been central to keeping the peace in Europe since the Second World War. It does so by keeping Russian aggression at bay.
Now, our President has used his office to unilaterally distance us from NATO, apparently making good on a campaign promise to exit the organization. He is stabbing our allies in the back—this Republican administration has aligned itself with George W. Bush’s Axis of Evil.
This creates grave national security concerns for us. It creates existential issues for our European allies. It threatens to destabilize the geopolitical world.
With this action, The United States has ceased to be the leader of the free world. Has Russia finally won the Cold War? Will the US become the newest territory in the Russian Federation?
I come from a family with deep military roots. My ancestors have fought and died for this country since before it was a country. Some currently serve in our military. This Republican administration’s betraying NATO by embracing Russia betrays them, and me, as well. It insults their sacrifice and their service. As does your silence in this matter.
Is sitting by, watching the President gleefully hand our Republic to our greatest enemy your idea of patriotism? If not, what are you doing to oppose it? To combat it? You swore an oath to uphold or Constitution. How are you doing that with regards to NATO and Russia?
The United States is not Putin’s Russia, Xi’s China, Castro’s Cuba or Maduro’s Venezuela. At any time, the GOP could unite and oppose the gutting of our national security and our way of life. To not do so is to support this administration’s treachery
I and my family urge in the strongest terms that you and your Republican colleagues to stand up to this administration’s betrayal of our republic, our ancestors and our allies.
