Last week Trump officials admitted they made an administrative error in abducting Abrego Garcia a man who was here legally since a court order allowed him to reside in the US and whose wife and child are American citizens and sending him to a prison in El Salvador. After a hearing on Friday a US district judge Paula Xinis ordered the government to bring him back. The administration filed a motion to stop the order. Xinis filed her opinion which said “His detention appears wholly lawless.” It is a clear constitutional violation” and yet administration officials “cling to the stunning proposition that they can forcibly remove any person migrant and US citizen alike to prisons outside the US and then badly assert they have no way to effectuate return because they are no longer the ‘custodian’ and the Court thus lacks jurisdiction.”
It was reported that 75% of the Venezuelans the Trump administration sent to prison in El Salvador had no criminal convictions or charges and 22% had records for non violent petty crimes like shoplifting or trespassing. What guarantee do we have that American opponents of Trump won’t be abducted and sent to El Salvador with no ability to be returned especially when he alluded to it himself.
Trump has declared 6 fake ‘national emergencies’ to enlarge and centralize his power while decimating FEMA agency that actually deals with emergencies and disasters while storms across the south have been wreaking havoc in the past days and states of emergency have been declared because of it. The Supreme Court decision to allow the deportations to continue is shameful and chilling. There is no war to justify it but even in wartime it was shameful to invoice the act.
It is lawless and chilling that the administration is allowed to send humans to prisons with deplorable conditions then claim it can’t do anything once they are there even if they were wrongfully accused. This administration is a nightmare and you are supporting it.
