I am writing to you today as a constituent in Ohio to express my deep concern regarding the rapid, unregulated deployment of artificial intelligence in the workplace. While AI offers immense technological advancement, it poses a severe, immediate threat to job security across numerous industries.Without proactive government intervention, we risk widespread economic hardship and the displacement of countless workers. I urge you to support and introduce legislation that achieves the following critical protections:
Enact Early Warning Systems: Modernize the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act to explicitly require companies to provide substantial advance notice of layoffs caused by AI implementation, giving workers and communities time to pivot.
Mandate Responsible AI Integration: Require employers to conduct "AI Impact Assessments" before replacing human workers, ensuring technology is used to augment the workforce rather than eliminate it.Invest in Worker Retraining: Fund and expand accessible, state-sponsored vocational and continuous-learning programs that help displaced workers transition into AI-resistant or AI-adjacent roles.
Protect Economic Livelihoods: Ensure that our unemployment and social safety net systems are equipped to support workers whose roles are displaced by automation.Workers are the backbone of our economy. Technological progress must not come at the expense of human livelihood. I urge you to prioritize legislation that puts workers first and regulates AI development responsibly.Thank you for your time, your public service, and your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to hearing your stance on protecting workers from AI displacement.
