Scuttle the Big Beautiful Bill!

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Cincinnati, OH

June 2

Good evening! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written, but with the Don’s “Big Beautiful Bill” being debated in the Senate, I thought it was about time to touch base again. From my previous messages, you already know that I am not a fan of the Don’s policies. I think he is a lying, narcissistic, hypocritical, sycophantic imbecile who is going to burn this country to the ground, then spit on the ashes, and somehow still claim that he made America great again while standing in the smoldering ruins. The problem is that if Congress passes his BBB, you will hand him all the tools to do just that! I have always skewed to the left with my politics; I generally do not mind paying a little more in taxes so that people (especially those less fortunate than me) can get the services they need. I also feel that a certain amount of government oversight (e.g. in banking, environmental protection, fair labor and business practices) is a good thing. And throw in some fun like the National Parks, and I’m a happy guy. I do however generally agree with the idea that one should be able to pay for one’s expenditures, and the Republican Party has generally supported this standpoint with its policies of fiscal conservatism. While I find the party’s doctrine of trickle down economics to be a bit naive, I am generally on board with the plan to improve government efficiency and drain the swamp. Unfortunately, the BBB does none of those things. It provides tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans by slashing and burning services and oversight programs. And even with those services gone, it doesn’t even pretend to try to balance the budget given that it includes a $5T hike in the debt ceiling. So the Republicans are basically going to triple down on the idea that wealth will trickle down to the masses from a few hundred ultra-rich elites (never going to happen…) while basically planning to plunge the country into massively higher debt. And all of this while children will go hungry, seniors will lose their retirement savings, unemployment will skyrocket, and everyone who is not a good old white boy better sit down and shut the heck up. It makes me sad that I even have to write this letter, and I am going to beg the two of you to find a little sanity, compassion, and just plain common sense and scuttle this travesty of a bill. If you’re really in DC to help your constituents and not just a handful of mega donors, please send this bill to the bottom of the Potomac where it belongs!
