ROUND THE BEND WE GO
To: Rep. Pfluger, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. We’re currently experiencing the results of misinformation used as a political weapon. A rumor started by a social media post. A rumor that has been apologized for by the creator. A rumor disavowed by the local government of the town. A rumor that took root at the highest level in GOP politics…the campaign for President and Vice-President of the United States. The Haitian immigrants in Springfield OH are not eating pets. Or any other local animals. That rumor has been, and continues to be, debunked by anyone not intent on becoming President or VP. This conscious deliberate lie spreading has caused havoc in the town of Springfield OH. A town that by any metric was a successful story of revitalization by a program of inviting legal immigrants to live and work in a town that was suffering an economic decline. “Like other Rust Belt communities, Springfield suffered from years of job losses that ate away at its economic base as well as its shared identity. Now, it’s one of many towns across the U.S. that is enjoying a resurgence. The return of manufacturing jobs has reinvigorated the area, though not without some growing pains. “The real story is that for 80 years we were a shrinking city, and now we’re growing,” said Carl Ruby, a longtime resident and senior pastor at Central Christian Church. “There is a workforce here just waiting.”” An additional tragedy, or dereliction of duty rather, is that the main proponent of spreading this crap is a Senator from Ohio. A Senator, who by his own admission, will say anything to make a point. Even if it involves harming citizens in the state he represents in Congress. Talking about immigration he said, “If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people then that’s what I’m going to do.” Oh the media is definitely paying attention to the suffering. Just not in the way he intended. Some may be swayed by such disingenuous BS. Most of us think it’s despicable. (Perhaps a better way to focus on immigration would have been to pass the Immigration bill recently squashed at the behest of the guy he wants to work for, instead of beating up on immigrants who were invited here to help with the American dream for themselves, and Springfield. And did so. To everyone’s benefit.) That’s it. Y’all need to do better. But that seems impossible at this point. Oh and in case you missed it, here’s your candidate’s latest Mean Girl plan to win more hearts and minds… On X today: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” Yep. That’s definitely the president the country needs.
