On America's 250th birthday, approximately 400 masked men marched through Washington, D.C. with Confederate flags.** They chanted: "Reclaim America." They rode the Metro. They marched through Capitol Hill. They surrounded passengers on the train. They carried Confederate flags and upside-down American flags. They wore matching uniforms: navy shirts, khaki pants, white face coverings. They carried riot shields painted red, white, and blue. Their name is Patriot Front. They are a white nationalist organization founded in 2017 after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville. The Southern Poverty Law Center designates them a hate group. The George Washington University Program on Extremism describes their goal as "creating a white ethnostate in the United States." They specifically planned to march on July 4, 2026 — the 250th anniversary — as a recruitment and visibility event. They marched. With Confederate flags. In the nation's capital. On Independence Day. Last night at Mount Rushmore, Trump said: “Communism is a mortal threat to American liberty. It is the greatest threat to our country, including World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor or even 9/11.” This morning, 400 white nationalists marched through Washington carrying Confederate flags. The president did not post about them. The White House did not condemn them. No statement has been issued. But the president who spent yesterday calling Democrats communists was silent about the men carrying Confederate flags through his city today.
