Reject unnecessary use of E-verify

To: Sen. Perry

From: A verified voter in Abilene, TX

April 25

I am writing as a constituent in your district to express my opposition to Senate Bill 324. I understand and support the principle that our immigration laws should be enforced. However, SB 324 takes a broad-brush approach that risks punishing law-abiding employers and burdening small businesses and local governments—especially in rural areas like ours—with added red tape and costs. Mandating E-Verify across the board might sound like a common-sense solution, but in practice, the system is prone to errors that can delay or deny lawful employment. That kind of government interference hurts businesses trying to do the right thing, especially those without the administrative infrastructure to handle additional compliance mandates. I’m also concerned that this bill shifts federal enforcement responsibility onto the state and its contractors, setting up unnecessary liability risks and potential litigation—something that grows government instead of limiting it. I know your values include protecting Texas businesses, keeping government small, and ensuring that laws are both effective and enforceable. SB 324, despite good intentions, doesn’t meet those standards. I respectfully ask you to oppose this bill and pursue more targeted, workable solutions that uphold the rule of law without burdening honest employers. Thank you for your service to our district.
