To every member of Congress who has held the line on accountability measures for ICE and CBP in the debate over H.R. 7744: Thank you. You are under significant pressure. The framing being used against you — that you are choosing politics over public safety, illegal aliens over the Coast Guard — is effective and you know it. You're holding anyway. That matters, and the Americans who understand what is actually at stake are watching and grateful. Actually at stake: ICE and CBP are already funded. They were funded through reconciliation. The question is whether federal agents operating on American soil do so under the rule-of-law conditions that every other armed federal agency in this country is subject to — warrants, body cameras, oversight, accountability to Congress. These are not radical demands. They are the constitutional baseline. An armed federal force operating outside those constraints is not a law enforcement agency in any traditional American sense. It is something else. Every member of Congress took an oath to a Constitution that does not make exceptions for popular or political enforcement priorities. Accountability is not optional when the politics are convenient and suspended when they aren't. It is the condition under which legitimate authority exists at all. This is not a left or right position. It is a foundational one. The members holding this line are not obstructing the function of government. They are insisting that government function within its constitutional limits — which is precisely what their oath requires. The pressure will continue. The framing will get uglier. Please hold anyway. The Americans who understand what you are protecting may not be loud right now, but we are here, and we are paying attention. With respect and gratitude,
