Urgent Action Needed to Address Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Mullin, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in San Mateo, CA

September 23, 2025

The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza demands our immediate attention and action. As your constituent, I urge you to use your position to advocate for an end to the violence and suffering that continues to devastate countless innocent lives. Recent reports from UNRWA paint a grim picture of the situation on the ground. Massive destruction of civilian infrastructure has left people without basic necessities. UNRWA shelters, meant to protect displaced individuals, have been damaged, further endangering those seeking refuge. The displacement crisis has reached unprecedented levels, forcing more and more families from their homes into increasingly dire conditions. Perhaps most alarming is the rising rate of malnutrition among children in Gaza. These young lives are being irreparably harmed by a conflict they did not create. Healthcare facilities are under attack, limiting access to vital medical care when it's needed most. The water and sanitation crisis compounds these health issues, with severe shortages and collapsing waste management systems creating a perfect storm for disease outbreaks. Our tax dollars should not be funding this devastation. As an elected official, you have the power and responsibility to take a stand. I implore you to push for an immediate ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, and diplomatic efforts to find a lasting solution. The United States must lead by example in upholding human rights and international law. Time is of the essence. Every day that passes without action means more lives lost, more children traumatized, and more damage that will take generations to heal. History will judge us by our response to this crisis. Let us be on the right side of that judgment by taking bold, compassionate action now. I ask that you publicly call for an end to the violence, work to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, and use your influence to push for a peaceful resolution to this conflict. The lives of countless civilians depend on our willingness to act. Please do not turn a blind eye to their suffering. Stand up for the values of peace, justice, and human dignity that we, your constituents, hold dear.
