The Border Wall Construction is a desecration. They have already rolled back protections on other national sites and monuments. They are coming for Chaco Canyon, too. What’s next on their hit list? PLEASE STOP the DESTRUCTION. Protect our public lands, wildlife, the sanctity of Native sites and graves, and our inheritance of beauty and bounty and nature and wilderness that we all cherish. The Border Wall plans threaten to erase some of the oldest ancient inscriptions in North America. From The Guardian: “Trump’s border wall construction threatens rock art as old as the pyramids: ‘The ancestors are still here’- - Roque Planas in Comstock, Texas Mon 24 Aug 2026 08.00 EDT.” The article continues: "On an overcast summer morning, Carolyn Boyd, an archeologist at Texas State University, stood at the foot of a cave in west Texas, looking up toward a series of towering murals painted on a rock wall. Three massive human-like figures soared toward an overhang that had sheltered the painting from the elements since they were drawn here perhaps 4,000 years ago. An artist herself, Boyd knows how hard it would have been to paint these long, crisp lines. Before starting, the bands of Indigenous hunter-gatherers who lived in this west Texas valley, where the Pecos River empties into the Rio Grande, would have spent weeks pulverizing gypsum, hematite, limonite and manganese to make paint. They would have gathered massive quantities of sotol stalks to fold its fibers into scaffolding. The painting itself would have required teamwork and precision, with people at the bottom guiding artists on the wall as they painted figures stretching up to 30ft tall." This is truly a wonder. Did you know it existed? Do you want to allow this to be destroyed? America has survived for 250 years without a Border Wall and for more than 225 years without ICE. Trump's immigration policy is making NO ONE SAFER. Government agents are committing more crimes than immigrants. Congressional fecklessness in funding the Wall and ICE in the 'Big Beautiful Bill" and successive feckless appropriations will be studied by future historians as bad, even wicked, examples of the failure of ethics, reason, and proper, deliberative processes. Will the destruction of these rock paintings, sacred sites, and pristine wild spaces be your legacy??? Or, will you use your power, your platform, and personal commitment to work with The People, Congressional colleagues and committees, the Judiciary, and the Executive Branch/U.S. Department of the Interior’s corrupt agenda being pursued through this barbaric destruction? Will you work to put the brakes on this devastation and save this - and other - monuments, public lands with the rich histories they hold, and the vast diversity of life that thrives only when we ensure the protection of our precious land?
