Investigate the Justice Department's decision to raid Rep. Ilhan Omar's home and issue grand jury subpoenas to her relatives just days before a midterm election. The DOJ's own internal guidelines prohibit timing investigative actions to affect an election, and the department's longstanding 60-day rule exists precisely to prevent this kind of interference. Executing a search warrant on a sitting member of Congress this close to Election Day is not a coincidence. It is a pattern.
The Public Integrity Section, which is supposed to provide oversight on politically sensitive investigations, was consulted here with only two attorneys left after the Trump administration gutted it last year. That is not meaningful oversight. Attorney General Todd Blanche was aware of the search, even as President Trump claimed he had nothing to do with it. Some of the documents under scrutiny date back to Omar's childhood and were completed by her late father. The timing and the targets raise serious questions about whether federal law enforcement is being used to punish a political critic rather than pursue justice.
This cannot stand without a response from Congress. Demand answers from the Justice Department about who authorized this timing and why the 60-day rule was disregarded.
