An Open Letter

To: Rep. Begich

From: A constituent in Cooper Landing, AK

December 17

I included you on my thank you note to Senators Murkowski and Sullivan for their vote to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies because I knew you too would soon have a chance to do what is best for the healthcare of Alaskans and Americans. You now have that opportunity by signing on to the discharge petition to force the vote to extend these subsidies to the floor and by voting to extend them. Health care in our country is broken. The ACA is not a success. It is, however, better than having fewer people with care. A for-profit health care system will always result in worse outcomes and more expense and it is time to accept that this has been proven out again and again. Please add your support to help to extend the subsidies for now and give ourselves breathing room to allow the next move to be determined without sending our entire healthcare system into a death spiral and costing countless lives.
