Oppose Military Action Against Greenland; Support Voluntary Partnership
To: Rep. Norcross, Sen. Booker, Sen. Kim

January 7
I am writing to express my strong opposition to any military action or threat of force involving Greenland. The use of coercion or aggression against a peaceful, democratic society would contradict the values the United States claims to uphold, including self-determination, rule of law, and respect for allies.
At the same time, I believe there is a constructive and principled path forward. I would welcome diplomatic discussions around a voluntary economic partnership, investment agreement, or negotiated political relationship with Greenland, if and only if it is freely chosen by the people of Greenland themselves.
Arrangements such as a Compact of Free Association, expanded economic cooperation, or even eventual territorial status should be considered only through transparent negotiation, democratic consent, and mutual benefit. These approaches align with international norms and demonstrate American leadership through partnership rather than pressure.
Greenland’s strategic importance in the Arctic does not justify military action. It does justify serious diplomacy, long-term investment, and respect for sovereignty. The United States is strongest when it leads by example, not by force.
I urge you to publicly reject any military action related to Greenland and to support peaceful, voluntary, and lawful engagement instead. Doing so protects American credibility, strengthens alliances, and honors the principles of democracy and consent.
Thank you for your time and for your service.
