Fully Fund Federal Land Agencies to Protect Our Public Lands and Economy

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. McClintock, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

November 9

I am writing to urge you to vote for an appropriations package that provides full funding for all federal land agencies. This is not just about preserving our natural heritage; it's about protecting a vital economic engine that generates $128 billion in annual economic activity and supports 900,000 jobs nationwide. A recent report by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, released on November 7, 2025, reveals the staggering impact of outdoor recreation on our economy. Every day, public lands generate $351 million in economic activity - that's $14.6 million every hour. This renewable resource outpaces traditional industries like mining, logging, and grazing on many public lands, serving as the backbone of numerous local economies. Despite these benefits, our land management agencies face severe challenges. Staff shortages, delayed maintenance, and budget cuts threaten the very infrastructure that supports this economic powerhouse. The current administration's proposed budget cuts for FY 2026, which include significant reductions to the National Park Service and Forest Service budgets, are short-sighted and economically damaging. As your constituent, I implore you to support full funding for all operations, maintenance, and backlogged items for our federal land agencies. This is not just about maintaining the status quo; it's about investing in our future. The $6 billion in direct federal tax revenue generated annually by public lands recreation demonstrates that this investment will pay for itself many times over. Our public lands are where my family and I spend our vacations, exploring and learning about our country. They are also crucial to the economies of many rural communities. By fully funding these agencies, we protect not only our natural resources but also expand the returns generated by the outdoor sector for generations to come. I will be closely monitoring your vote on this issue, and I intend to inform others in our community about your stance on protecting our national public lands. Your support for full funding will demonstrate your commitment to both environmental stewardship and economic growth. Let's ensure that our public lands continue to provide sustainable benefits for all Americans.
