It pains me to read about Speaker Johnson imposing a ban on transgender people using the bathroom in the house that their gender is aligned with. While this is clearly grandstanding aimed at incoming Rep. McBride, it will effect every transgender person working in the Capitol as well as visitors. The ban has no purpose except to drive transgender people from public life and to stoke the fires of public opinion. I urge you to speak out publicly against the ban and to introduce legislation to counter Rep. Mace’s bathroom bill that would allow transgender people to use the bathroom that their gender is aligned with.
