Oppose Federal Voucher Funding for Private Religious Schools

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Mullin, Sen. Schiff

From: A verified voter in San Mateo, CA

June 6

Vote no on any federal financial assistance regulation that funnels taxpayer dollars into private religious schools through vouchers. This proposal is a direct attack on the constitutional separation of church and state, and it forces every American — regardless of their faith, background, or beliefs — to subsidize religious instruction they may fundamentally oppose. That is not a legitimate use of public money. Public schools serve every child, every family, every belief system. Private religious schools do not. Families who choose private religious education are making a choice, and they should fund that choice themselves. Redirecting federal dollars away from public education to pad the budgets of institutions that can exclude students based on religion, race, or identity is a grift — plain and simple. It defunds the schools that actually serve our communities while rewarding institutions that answer to no public accountability. Protect the public education system that belongs to all of us. Block any voucher scheme dressed up as "financial assistance reform." Our tax dollars must not be used to advance any single religious ideology at the expense of a diverse, pluralistic society.
