Bring Bills HB 5300, 5301, 5302, and 5303 to the floor

To: Rep. Scholten

From: A constituent in Ada, MI

December 5

These bills recognize the fundamental rights of individuals to have their identity accurately reflected and to go through administrative processes without undue burdens. It is crucial that gender identity and legal names are respected on official documents, as this impacts access to services, employment, housing, and full societal participation. The proposal to codify existing policies into law would provide stability and prevent potential future discrimination. Additionally, simplifying the legal name change process would remove unnecessary obstacles, especially for vulnerable groups like survivors of domestic violence. Enshrining these protections in law upholds human dignity and equal treatment under the law. I urge representatives to bring these bills to the floor for a vote before the end of this legislative session.
