Numerous studies have shown that militarized police responses often escalate conflicts rather than de-escalating them. Furthermore, the directive for the Department of Defense to determine how military assets and personnel can be directly utilized in domestic crime prevention is an alarming encroachment on civil liberties and democratic norms. The military exists to protect against foreign threats, not to police American citizens. Involving armed forces in routine law enforcement raises fears of martial law and the suppression of constitutional rights like free speech and assembly. This order undermines the fundamental principle of separating the military from domestic policing that has been upheld throughout our nation's history. It represents an abuse of executive powers that threatens to undermine constitutional checks and balances. Robust oversight and public scrutiny are urgently needed to ensure this policy does not enable the administration to overstep its authority and infringe on civil rights under the guise of crime prevention. Preserving America's democracy and rights depends on halting any further escalation down this dangerous path. Donald Trump must be impeached due to violations of the Constitution and his oath of office.
