Defend Federal Workers and Stop the Assault on Collective Bargaining

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

July 10

I am writing to express my outrage over the continued assault on federal employees, their unions, and the institutions that serve the American people. Under Russell Vought’s leadership and this administration’s agenda, we have witnessed an unprecedented effort to strip federal workers of their collective bargaining rights, weaken unions, and dismantle the civil service. The recent lawsuit challenging the Department of Defense’s decision to terminate collective bargaining agreements is only the latest example of this administration’s reckless and chaotic approach. Federal employees deserve stability, respect, and due process—not politically motivated attacks on their workplace rights. Collective bargaining has long provided employees with a voice in their working conditions while helping agencies resolve disputes, retain experienced staff, and continue serving the public effectively. Destroying those protections does not strengthen government—it weakens it. As a constituent, I expect you to stand up for federal employees and oppose efforts to eliminate collective bargaining rights, undermine unions, and erode the merit-based civil service. Congress has a constitutional responsibility to provide oversight of the executive branch and to ensure that no administration is allowed to dismantle longstanding workplace protections without accountability. Federal employees are not the enemy. They are veterans, public servants, scientists, claims specialists, investigators, engineers, nurses, and countless others who dedicate their careers to serving the American people. They deserve leaders who will defend them, not remain silent while their rights are stripped away. I urge you to publicly condemn these actions, support legislation that restores and protects collective bargaining rights, and hold Russell Vought and this administration accountable for the damage they have caused to the federal workforce. Your constituents are watching. I hope you will choose to stand with the dedicated public servants who keep our government functioning instead of standing by while their rights are dismantled. If you fail to defend federal employees, unions, and the integrity of our civil service, many voters—including me—will remember that when it is time to cast our ballots.
