I am writing to you as a concerned Texan to urge you to reconsider your administration's recent steps toward participating in a national voter list. While I share your commitment to election integrity, I am deeply troubled by the precedent set by voluntarily handing over our state’s voter data to federal authorities. ​The United States Constitution is clear: the power to regulate and maintain elections is a right reserved to the states. This decentralized system is a vital safeguard against federal overreach and centralizing power. A national database—regardless of which administration oversees it—represents a dangerous shift toward federal control of our most sacred democratic process. ​Historically, you have been a champion of the "Texas Plan," advocating for a Convention of States to rein in the federal government and restore the 10th Amendment. It is inconsistent with those principles to now allow the federal government to construct what is essentially a nationalized registry using Texas’ private data. Such a measure is not only a risk to voter privacy but is an unlawful expansion of federal authority that threatens the sovereign independence of our state. ​Furthermore, we have seen that centralized databases are often prone to inaccuracies, which could lead to the disenfranchisement of eligible Texas citizens. Election security is best managed at the state and local levels, where officials are directly accountable to the people they serve, rather than a distant federal bureaucracy. ​I urge you to overthink this alignment and oppose any efforts to create a national voter list. Please protect the constitutional division of power and ensure that Texas elections remain solely in the hands of Texans.
