I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent who is alarmed by recent statements and actions from the President that appear to encourage hostility—and even violence—toward elected officials. No matter one’s political beliefs, it is completely unacceptable for any President of the United States to use rhetoric that could endanger public servants or undermine the stability of our democratic institutions.
Elected officials should be able to perform their duties free from threats, intimidation, and the fear of physical harm. When the nation’s highest office uses inflammatory language or appears to condone the targeting of political opponents, it erodes public trust and fuels an already dangerous environment. We have already seen how violent rhetoric can escalate into real-world harm, and we cannot afford to ignore the risks.
I am urging Congress to respond with decisive action:
• Publicly condemn any rhetoric—regardless of source—that encourages violence against government officials.
• Investigate incidents where presidential statements may have contributed to threats or calls for harm.
• Reinforce bipartisan commitments to civil discourse, constitutional norms, and the protection of all elected representatives.
The safety of our government officials should never be a partisan issue. I urge you to uphold your responsibility to protect our democracy and ensure that no leader is permitted to foster an atmosphere of fear or violence.
Thank you for your service, and for taking this matter seriously.
