The indefinite hold on submissions to the Federal Register is preventing critical study sections and advisory councils from convening, effectively stalling the awarding of new grants and grant renewals from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This obstructs the ability of NIH to properly allocate and utilize funding that Congress has already approved through the budgeting process. Preventing these public notices not only undermines the intended functioning of the NIH grant system, but also disrupts ongoing research efforts and jeopardizes the careers of many scientists. To uphold the integrity of the NIH and respect the will of Congress in approving a budget, this unwarranted freeze on Federal Register postings must be lifted immediately. Resuming regular operations will allow NIH to carry out its vital role in supporting pioneering scientific inquiry and biomedical advancement for the benefit of society.
