Congress must reassert its war powers

To: Rep. Dexter, Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

March 16

I’m writing as a constituent asking Congress to immediately reassert its constitutional authority over war powers. The President does not have unilateral authority to launch a war with Iran without Congressional authorization. Article I of the Constitution clearly places the power to declare war with Congress. I urge you to support legislation that: • Requires Congressional authorization for any sustained military action against Iran • Enforces the War Powers Resolution • Prohibits funding for unauthorized military escalation Regardless of party, Congress must defend its constitutional role and prevent another open-ended war in the Middle East.
