I'm deeply alarmed by Donald Trump's firing of Dr. Carla Hayden, Librarian of Congress, and his attempt to install DOJ loyalists in a legislative branch institution. This role is Senate-confirmed and independent from the executive branch. Congress must defend its authority under Article I of the Constitution.
The Library of Congress—home to the Congressional Research Service and the U.S. Copyright Office—is critical to nonpartisan governance and intellectual freedom. Politicizing it sets a dangerous precedent, risking future raids on libraries and censorship under extreme ideologies.
I urge you to:
1 Condemn the firing of Dr. Hayden.
2 Investigate this abuse of executive power.
3 Protect the independence of the Library and Copyright Office.
The Library of Congress belongs to the people—not the President.
