The current events across our country and the world have shone a light on the racial disparities within our great nation. The battle for civil rights has been long, but often, fruitful. However, there are so many discrepancies and challenges remain. As evidenced in Georgia and Kentucky, freedom and ease of exercising our right to vote remains an open wound. The near elimination of polling places, non-working voting machines, threats to vote-by-mail, and purges to voter registration all seem to indicate a need to reenact the Voting Rights Act. How are we, as a nation, to be a beacon of democracy when our own citizens are prevented from exercising this precious, essential right to vote. Please consider addressing this vital issue. Many, many Americans recognize that our voice is being stifled and will stand in lines for hours and hours to make each voice heard. We also realize many elected officials are complacent and even, complicit. In the long run, voting oppression will not serve us or you. It is time to re-enact the Voting Rights Act. Trust must be rebuilt between the people and politicians. Our nation, our democracy depends on it. We see you. We care. We vote. Please be a part of a solution.
