Today I take pen in hand to write and urge your action to block, and overturn the rollback of pollution enforcement by the EPA. This only serves industry, and through industrial pollution, only puts even more lives at risk during a pandemic.
If the polluting industries cannot survive without regulatory rollbacks, then they are not as viable as they pretend to be for their investors. Free market must not mean free to pollute.
As someone who grew up in the industrial northeast with some of the worst polluting going on, I can attest to the need for everything we've done in the US. I have vivid memories of pollution in streams and rivers as a child. During one trip down the New Jersey Turnpike, the lurid green wastewater lakes near the highway from local chemical companies stands out from that time.
The current action to basically allow pollution while we are dealing with COVID-19 puts the lie on President Trumps idiotic assertion that he wants 'the cleanest water.'
Use the Congressional Review Act, sue the EPA, or bring charges against the industries promoting this. The damage done now will be around long after Trump and his advisors are gone.
