I am a self-employed photographer in Colorado Springs. My entire business is based on photography workshops and tours. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have ceased operations. My entire spring calendar has been cancelled. My summer and fall schedules are tenuous at best. On March 27, Congress passed the CARES Act, to help people impacted by COVID-19. The act includes support for 1099 workers and self-employed individuals like myself. To date, the Colorado Department of Labor website has NO mechanism for self-employed individuals to apply for unemployment aid. Moreover, the IRS website has NO MECHANISM for individuals to submit direct deposit banking information to expedite distribution of stimulus funds. I am a self-employed, single parent. I fully recognize that the magnitude of the recent pandemic is unprecedented. Nevertheless, I am disappointed that Wall Street can access financial aid instantly, while individual taxpayers are made to wait and wonder if and when relief will arrive. Moreover, upon hearing the news that President Trump has fired numerous inspectors general, including the one overseeing this massive financial package, I am deeply concerned that our country is now a de-facto dictatorship.
