A clarion call for the New York City community:
Whether you have a child in the school system or not, and though I despair that our city and country do not properly take care of children and families in general, keeping children in public school settings in a health crisis like this is an unnecessary risk and deplorable public health policy.
To ask principals and school staff, whose families and themselves are vulnerable as well, to manage a WORLD health crisis with no supports is not only deplorable public health policy but, honestly I don’t know if there is a word for it. It verges into Trump territory. Here in NYC from our elected officials.
Please act. Close the public schools. Feed children who need it in the interim and set up emergency daycare. THEN deal with eduction time lost. Follow Maryland's lead.
DeBlasio and Carranza are failing us on this front. Please step in. Now.
