Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
Roger Stone. No surprise there huh? But we are so accustomed to Trump administration corruption that who really cares. Mr. Trump uses his pardon power like all the other powers he has at hand...for his own personal benefit.
Protect him. You’re golden. Don’t be a rat. And Roger Stone knows where bodies are buried. So it’s a no-brainer that a quid pro quo would be in the offing.
“This afternoon, before the announcement, NBC news correspondent Howard Fineman tweeted “Just had a long talk with [Roger Stone]. He says he doesn’t want a pardon (which implies guilt) but a commutation, and says he thinks [Trump] will give it to him. 'He knows I was under enormous pressure to turn on him. It would have eased my situation considerably. But I didn’t.'”
Ho hum. Next.
“Trump didn’t use a full pardon, so Stone isn’t absolved of his crimes. But he won’t face the consequences for them either. Trump’s commutation effectively rewards Stone for his deceptions, which prosecutors say were intended to protect the president. The message: Try to protect the president, and you’ll be rewarded.”
Of course. Next.
He’ll be gone soon. Mr. Trump that is. But you know who won’t be? Those of you who averted your eyes, made excuses, lauded the president in his corruption, and made our democracy weaker. And our faith in justice for all laughable.
“Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) tweeted before Stone's commutation was official: "In my view it would be justified if President @realDonaldTrump decided to commute Roger Stone's prison sentence. Mr. Stone is in his 70s and this was a non-violent, first-time offense.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) wrote on Twitter that he supports the commutation, adding "Roger Stone’s prosecution by overzealous Special Counsel prosecutors was an outgrowth of the Obama-Biden misconduct."
Obviously the more heinous the crime, like subverting your country, the bigger the reward.
Law and order party? I think not.
