WE CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. Now that the President and his flotilla of doctors have assured us that he’s great, no problems, working hard, don’t really even know why he’s in the hospital, we can all get back to normal. If indeed any of that is true. And indeed if there’s any normal to be had these days. I’m reminded of Monty Python’s Holy Grail this morning, specifically the sword fight between King Arthur and the Black Knight. To recap, Arthur and the Knight have a battle. Arthur slowly chips away at the Knight’s body parts. All the while the Knight is denying there’s any issue at all and he is victorious. Black Knight: Tis but a scratch. King Arthur: A scratch?! Your arm's off! Black Knight: No it isn't. Black Knight: I'm invincible! King Arthur: You're a looney. Black Knight: The Black Knight always triumphs! Of course there’s much more to the scene but you get the gist. We all know Mr. Trump lives in the world of the Black Knight. And it’s not so much from a place of bravery, but from a place of delusion. Delusion based in fear. And all those around him, well-intentioned or not, find themselves in the position of propping up his delusions. And his fears. So he may be doing great, the country hopes so. I’d rather him be voted out of office than die. But right now, at this moment, we don’t truly know how he is doing. His chief-of-staff, in a unguarded moment (unclear motivation) gave us perhaps the truth. But that ‘truth’ was quickly backpedaled by not only the doc in charge but Mr. Trump as well. So it’s just the same old story but different, and more serious, day. “Asked about his reluctance to disclose to the public on Saturday that Trump had been on oxygen, Conley said he had been trying not to cause alarm. “I was trying to reflect the upbeat attitude that the team, the president, over his course of illness, has had,” the physician said.” We don’t need upbeat. We need truth. That’s all we’ve ever needed.
