An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Vigilantism

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The current state of affairs in our country puts all citizens in danger. The growing militia movement is especially alarming, as is its acceptance by many law enforcement officers. The anarchic laws allowing "open carry" are nothing more than encouragement of vigilantism. The justification and need for establishing militias was obviated by the establishment of our national armed forces, and the term "well-regulated" from the second amendment meant established and controlled by the government, not groups of gun enthusiasts wanting to play Army and take the law into their own hands. Our dangerous and misguided president encourages this kind of lawlessness, and so you as leaders in the Congress must use your public platforms to speak to the people about the need for peace and harmony in our communities. I beg you to speak out against anarchy and violence at this time. Without a national movement toward peace and justice, we are headed for a civil war once again. Please do all you can to stop the dangerous trends in our country. We have no moral leadership at the top, so your voices must now be heard.
