Covid-19 and Education

Please take the time to educate yourself about Covid-19 and children. You are correct in that children don’t become as sick and adults, but the conclusions you draw from this is where you show that you haven’t paid attention to growing understanding of Covid-19. First, there’s the obvious issue of spread. Once one child gets the virus, they can easily spread it to other children in their classroom, their teacher, and their family. Children are living breathing germ factories who are known for spreading colds throughout school buildings. Covid-19 is easier to transmit than the common cold or the flu. Secondly, there’s the issue of health complications AFTER recovering from Covid-19. We don’t know everything we need to know about long-term effects. But one paper released from Chinese doctors reported that, regardless of the severity of the disease, after recovered patients were discharged from the hospital, many biological measures “failed to return to normal.” Sending children to school where the potential of getting an illness that can not only harm them, but their families, too, for the rest of their lives, is highly irresponsible. Since Missouri politicians are not willing to take steps to protect the citizens of this state, my hope is in school administrators. Every school in Missouri had shut down before Governor Parson saw a need to shut down schools. The schools in my area seem to be taking a cautious approach and putting healthy protocols in place. They know they can no longer rely on anything good coming out of our legislature. We have to take care of ourselves. If a school does heed your advice, I hope you are prepared to pay for long-term medical needs and funerals for those who contract the virus.
