An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Provide additional aid for public schools in future coronavirus stimulus bills

The first stimulus package with $13.5 billion for public education nation-wide is behind us now. $13.5 Billion nationwide was nowhere near enough for public education. Congress is contemplating yet another stimulus package, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday he would rather let state governments declare bankruptcy during the coronavirus pandemic than receive more federal funding according to https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mitch-mcconnell-states-bankruptcy-federal-aid/ McConnell suggested Republicans should oppose additional aid for state and local governments in future coronavirus relief bills. The State of Colorado and other states need additional funds for public education. Forcing Colorado & other states to file for bankruptcy, as Sen. McConnell suggests, is inhumane and shows a grotesque lack of leadership while many Colorado citizens and school districts struggle. Please ensure adequate aid to state and local governments for public education and other public services benefiting Coloradans & citizens of other states is included in future coronavirus relief bills.
