I demand accountability for the racist murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and so many other innocent people of color.
Although it is a good step that the officers involved with George Floyd’s murder have been arrested, we can’t let these charges be dropped. All officers guilty of such heinous acts, including in our state, should be permanently removed from the police force and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for murder/manslaughter.
I urge you to support Representatives Pressley and Omar’s resolution condemning police brutality as well as Representative Lee’s reintroduction of the Law Enforcement Trust Integrity Act of 2015. I demand that policymakers require officers to give a verbal warning before shooting at a civilian; to intervene and stop excessive force used by other officers and report these incidents immediately to a supervisor; and to report each time they use force or threaten to use force against civilians. I demand that that the police be defunded and those funds get invested into black communities.
Police officers and white oppressors have gotten away with injustices far too long in this country; the police officers responsible for the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless other innocent people of color must face consequences for their gross acts of violence. Killer and complicit law enforcement officers must be held accountable and be shown as an example that this behavior has consequences.
Please support justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and so many other black brothers and sisters. It is time for justice to be served and for fundamental changes to be made, so that law enforcement protects all of its people, not just a privileged few.
