An open letter to the U.S. Congress

May 1 Strikes

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Today, employees of many essential businesses, including Amazon, are staging strikes to bring attention to the fact that they are working in unsafe conditions. Under the general duty clause stated in the OSH act, it is unlawful for an employer to knowingly permit workers to conduct business in a way that would result in injury or death. I am unable to personally participate in supporting these workers because I am forced to rely on them during the stay-at-home order. My spouse and I are both at a high-risk of contracting a serious case of the coronavirus, and these businesses have kept us in food and essentials for over 45 days. I am writing to urge you to take action on the behalf of your constituents to force these employers to take better care of their employees. It’s clear that they can afford to do this; they are simply choosing not to do it. Please do the right thing for essential workers.
