An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect MA residents from government abduction

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I’m writing to express my deep distress and concern about the arrest of Rumeysa Ozturk in Somerville this week. Ms. Ozturk, a legal immigrant and student at Tufts, was detained by ICE agents in civilian clothes and masks, using unmarked cars. As a woman, the way Ms. Ozturk was approached is chilling - a masked person in civilian street clothes comes up and grabs her, then she’s quickly surrounded and forcibly removed from a car. In the video there is no clear markers of identification, and it looks like Ms. Ozturk is being kidnapped by civilians. As an American, I’m horrified she’s being kidnapped by our government. This puts us one small step from fully naturalized or native born US Citizens being seized off of Massachusetts streets. How will our state government work to keep us safe from this threat and in turn help stop this explicit abuse of power across the country?
